Itinerary and Interesting Information About the Tour
Salvador Dalí said: “I am not the man who stole a landscape, the landscape stole me.”
And it is through those landscapes that stole Dalí’s heart that our visit will take place, where our guide will tell you the fascinating story of this world-renowned painter.
Our goal is to offer you a more intimate and special visit, focusing on Dalí as the local Cadaqués citizen he was.
1. Old Path from Cadaqués to Portlligat
Our walking tour begins at Plaça Frederic Rahola, next to the Dalí statue in Cadaqués (one of the town’s most iconic sculptures).
We’ll start with a walk along the old path from Cadaqués to Portlligat, one of Dalí’s favorite routes.
And it will be impossible not to wonder:
- What influence did Cadaqués have on his works?
- How did this town become his refuge for inspiration and peace?
- How did his neighbors see him?
- What kind of friendships did the painter have?
All these questions—and many more anecdotes—will be answered as we stroll through the historic streets Dalí once roamed.
We’ll talk about his relationship with his family, the influence of his wife Gala, and the curious story that brought them together.
Plus, we’ll see some notable spots along the way, like the “Casa Blaua” or “Casa Serinyana,” one of the most beautiful buildings in Cadaqués.
Finally, this old path will lead us to Portlligat, where Dalí’s house is located.
2. Portlligat
We step fully into Salvador Dalí’s world.
We’ll arrive at Portlligat, home to the current Salvador Dalí House-Museum in Cadaqués.
We’ll continue with an explanation of the house gardens and wait a few minutes before entering the house-museum to start our guided visit inside Dalí’s residence.
3. Salvador Dalí House-Museum
We’ll delve into the Dalí House-Museum and explore the painter’s life in depth.
We’ll review his biography, family relationships, and see how these experiences are reflected in his 20th-century creations.
We will also witness the strong bond Dalí had with Cadaqués, Portlligat, and the Cap de Creus. These landscapes play a fundamental role in his work, which features many motifs inspired by the environment in which he lived.
As he said: “You can’t understand my painting without knowing Portlligat.”
By getting to know Portlligat and his home, we’ll get a deeper understanding of Salvador Dalí and his prolific work.
You’ll walk through the different rooms with the feeling that the artist still lives within these walls.
And truly, that is the case—his spirit remains forever. Every corner of the house is imbued with Salvador Dalí’s essence through his art.
